Description

The interior of St. Marks is spellbinding, the richness of the decoration, and the use of gold left me totally mesmerised. Byzantium art at it’s richest.

I painted this especially for the Aq-Art Exhibition which took place in September 2020. Because of lockdowns due to the (ovid virus I ended up being involved with two International Art exhibitions at the same time, Lisbon and Venice and so I made plans first to leave my beloved Andaluda and travel to Lisbon and from there to Venice. The paintings that follow are of my experiences on this wonderful trip. It would have been easy to paint a series of pictures of the Grand Canal and St. Mark’s square but I wanted to capture the true spirit of the cities day to day life and of the people who are lucky enough to inhabit it.
